The Right Place and Montcalm Economic Alliance assist Northland Corporation with Greenville expansion

Upscale refrigeration manufacturer to add up to 200 jobs, invest $21.4 million to expand location in Greenville

Today, The Right Place, Inc., in collaboration with the Montcalm Economic Alliance and Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC), announced that upscale refrigeration manufacturer Northland Corporation will expand its facility at 1260 E. Van Deinse in Greenville, creating 200 new jobs and $21.4 million in capital investment ($17m in property investment and $4.4m in equipment). The company is receiving state and local investments totaling $5,029,135.

Northland Corporation is a subsidiary founded in Greenville as Ranny Refrigerator in 1892. It is the longest-standing refrigeration company in North America and has pioneered numerous advancements in undercounter refrigeration technology. It is credited with creating the first foamed-in-place refrigerator and the first refrigeration of its kind with sleek stainless steel interiors and glass doors.

The company has seen dramatic growth and increasing demand for its products, and due to this growth, Northland Corporation is increasing its production capacity for its high-end appliances. The company plans to expand its 175,000 SF facility by an additional 98,000 SF and add multiple pieces of state-of-the-art equipment to help support new product advancements.

The Montcalm Economic Alliance, powered by The Right Place, worked closely with the City of Greenville and the MEDC to ensure the company continued its growth in the region rather than out-of-state locations. The total incentives are as follows:

  • Michigan Business Development Program $1,280,000
  • City of Greenville Property Tax Abatement $2,838,327
  • State Education Tax Abatement $646,808
  • Sales and Use Tax Exemptions $264,000
