Today The Right Place, Inc., in collaboration with the Michigan Economic Development Corporation (MEDC) and the City of Grand Rapids, announced that Repair Center, LLC dba Tech Defenders will be expanding into an existing warehouse in Grand Rapids, creating 115 new jobs and investing $2.7 million in the expansion.
Tech Defenders, based in Grand Rapids, is an IT asset disposition and mobile device repair company that provides lifecycle solutions for large scale technology deployments. The company works primarily with school districts across the U.S. who use mobile devices in the classroom, such as Chromebooks, iPads, and Macbooks. Tech Defenders offers many services to help maximize the lifespan and recovery value of these devices, such as repairing them or buying them back when they become obsolete.
The company, with 120 current employees, is experiencing rapid growth and is at capacity at its current facility. The new 73,000 sq. ft. facility, located at 601 Maryland Avenue NW, Grand Rapids, Michigan, 49505, will allow for increased operations, capacity, and storage.
“As we continue to grow both nationally and internationally, we need a larger location that will grow with us,” said Garry VonMyhr, CEO, Tech Defenders. “We are grateful to The Right Place, and their partners, for providing the strategic insights and resources we needed to make this happen right here in Grand Rapids.”
The MEDC is supporting the expansion effort with the approval of a $172,500 Michigan Business Development Program performance-based grant.
“We’re excited to work with Tech Defenders and build the business case to keep their company growth right here in West Michigan,” said Eric Icard, Senior Business Development Manager, and project lead. “As mobile devices become the more prevalent in education, services like Tech Defenders will be critical to school districts nationally and internationally.”
